From nothing to league champions in one season

Not many football clubs have got to be league champions in their very first year of existence but that is the magnitude of the achievement of East Keswick Football Club.

Chris Clark from Keswick Grange created the club in 2005. Very quickly a number of people came forward to play or support. Their enthusiasm was rightly encouraged by a £500 grant organised by East Keswick Parish Council from Leeds City Council funds

Now top of the Harrogate and Claro League Sunday Association Football League Division 4, the club looks forward to the coming season in Division 3.

The winning 2005/6 team was Chris Clark (Captain), Ben Sanpher, John Wilson, Simon Earp, Tom Lister, Dan Storey, Andrew Atter, Andrew Rushgrove, Alistair Ward, Martin Crooks, Eddie Mensah, Dave Lynskey, Mark Nuttall, Tom Weaver and Mark Abram

At the end of season awards ceremony held on Saturday 29th April at the Old Star Inn, East Keswick, Tom Weaver won both Supporters’ Player of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year, Chris Clark won an award for the leading goalscorer. David Firth presented the awards in front of a packed house. Special thanks were also given to many other behind the scenes people who had played such a crucial role in getting the team off the ground including Linda Clark, Secretary Martin Crooks and Gillian from the Old Star itself, plus Andy Batty and East Keswick Parish Council for the grant support that gave the club such a boost in its early days.
